Day 44 - And once again... the sunset!

What a difference just a minute or two makes when it comes to the sunset. I worked late today and when I left, I was thinking I would snap a quick pix in the grocery store because I was just too tired to deal with it. BUT.. then I saw the golden light.. and pink in the sky... and knew I had to get someplace to see the sunset. It seems to revive me. I grabbed these two shots within a minute or so of each other.

This last picture is actually from Sunday at the Ocean Springs Inner Harbor. While we were doing the original 30 day challenge, we got challenged to find a natural heart. I found my heart during that challenge. When I was going through the pictures from Sunday again, I noticed this heart. Very KEWL!

Day 42 - Going to the Birds

I was in Ocean Springs today and when the sun came out finally, I decided to go down to the small craft harbor. It was so beautiful and after about an hour at the main harbor, I went around to the inner harbor. The pelicans were hanging out hoping for someone to come along and clean some fish... and they got their wish. So did I... some great shots of pelicans.. and some mallard ducks... and a great egret... and some seagulls :) It was a fun day.

Day 41 - The Flowers of Bellngrath

I went to Bellingrath Gardens in Mobile today with a couple of friends and we met up with a local group of photographers. The gardens aren't quite in full bloom yet... but there are always flowers out. I played a bit with my old manual macro. Had to guess at the settings (ok... it was more trial and error than anything.. and a lot of errors). It made me realize that my next lens is going to be a good macro... I love taking close up shots!

I plan to go back again this spring and see what else there once the flowers are really in bloom... hopefully while the azaleas are blooming. If you ever get the chance to go, it's worth the trip.

Day 40 - Heron at the Point

Well.... my plan was to work on getting some more varied pictures, but this week has just been so stressful that I needed my spirit re-energized. So I headed down to Pelican Point after work today to see if the birds were out and maybe watch the sunset. The heron that lives down at the Point was around and almost cooperative in his posing for me.

This shot was taken at Pelican Point. The sky had all these wispy clouds that looked like they had been swirled around and they were really catching the setting sun.

This last shot was taken at Mullet Point Park. I'm going to have to get back there another time.

Day 39 - Checking Out the Polo Ponies

I stopped this morning to check out the water (still looking for those great reflections again)... It's on my way to work (almost) so I've been turning down that road most mornings. I'm not sure why I have never noticed the way the pine cones grow in one of the trees at Bayfront Pier. This morning I looked up... and there they were...

After work, I went out to see the polo ponies. There is a country club right down the road and they have a lot of Polo players out there. I went to the one of the matches last year... and plan to go back this year. It was already getting dark by the time I got out I didn't get much, but I liked these..

Wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow... :)

Day 38 - Fly Creek Marina

After the rain blew out of here today, it turned into a beautiful day.... blue skies... lower 70's and a light breeze. So, after work I headed down to Fly Creek Marina. I've been taking a lot of pictures of sunsets and I really wanted to see if I can focus on something else. I think I succeeded today..

I wish I had gotten a better shot here as I doubt this will still be sitting on the dock the next time I go out to Fly Creek. It needs something (Anna and I decided it needs a big old crab in it).. I still like the textures.

I caught this picture of the pelican doing a perfect arabesque... not sure why he was standing like this, but I snapped the shot and then he flew off.....

So I snapped that shot too.. He gets a bit lost but I like the reflections.

Another thing I like are the ropes around the pilings... again I think it's that textural thing..

Getting a really good picture of the masts is another challenge or me. At least I have access to the masts any time I want to go to Fly Creek! :) I'll keep working on it.

I got this shot simply because I loved a similar shot Anna took a few weeks ago. I wish I had turned the water on to get a drip... but these are not public piers... so I don't think I'm supposed to do that.

After I left Fly Creek, I stopped by College Avenue Pier... there is a heron that hangs out there... and as usual he was around. He was on one of the storm damaged piers when I got there, but flew off to the shore to chase off a white heron. I got the shots before he flew off again.

This last shot is just something really different for me. I caught this piece of reflection in a shallow very clear puddle left over from the morning rain. I love how it looks... sort of like it's painted there or something...

Even though I got a few bird pictures, I still think I did better at shooting something a bit different... :)
